Topic is very interesting and it is one of the major issues also which is worth exploring! Any nation can be built up by its youth and it depends on ''READING''. Here ''THE AREA OF INTEREST'' plays a vital role. What type of writing is being liked and read becomes important.
A few months ago, I had updated a status on facebook regarding the delight , interest of youth; generation. That status will surely help me elaborate my point.
''I do not feel ashamed of accepting the truth which includes me and others too. Generally while watching any movie or reading any book people do not seem to be annoyed or bored when absurdities take place before their eyes which arouse only amusement with meaningless things that have nothing to do with reality but people generally get bored when utopian ideas, facts, truths with moral values are shown in any movie or in any book. It can't be enjoyed by us! We can't take delight in it. They are shown with purpose of reformation, to bring the change, to make people aware of history with anecdotes or moral values that are worth believing or realizing! But we run away from them. We can't accept the ''REAL'' thing. Whole young India can be included in my status. Perhaps some of them may not be there. But I'm too pleased not to be there. Actually I was but now I'm not.
I agree with the way the statistical outcome of the research has been shown. Here the concept of '' ART FOR ART'S SAKE OR ART FOR LIFE'S SAKE'' is in conflict. Fictional books are read for aesthetic delight which makes people happy and keeps them away from worries. People seem to read these books for having '' A CHANGE'' or refreshment. Living a life without amusement is not possible. People get detached to problems and seriousness with this kind of reading. For example some movies and books have a touch of farcical comedy. It's aim is to entertain people only by making extravagant gestures and with mentions of absurd characteristics of the people. Here Mr. Rohit Shetty ought not to be forgotten whose movies' absurdities have crossed the boundaries . Personally if I'm asked about his movies, I would hesitate to respond because I can't believe such people who always get absorbed in taking delight in such movies. He doesn't fall under the category of '' MR PERFECTIONIST '' either! Fullest fun only! As compared to him I like direction of Rajkumar Hirani, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Mani Ratnam, Yash Chopra and last but not the least Raj Kapoor. These people must be conveyed respect! It becomes too important to find satire and irony or meaning in this kind of comedies which have something to convey. But people are bent on taking only aesthetic delight. How effortlessly Rohit Shetty makes us laugh with a slight element of farce! It shows that people have always been keen in finding meaningless laughter in their life so that they can forget their worries. And nothing is wrong in that. His comedies are like a companion of our life which is consist of laughter too. It's like true friend who remains forever with us,'' beating the hell out of us and then says, '' it was out of sheer love for you. '' As one of our friends takes pleasures in teasing or annoying us and at last confesses . Laughter is just like that that makes us feel pain in stomach. It enters our life for reason. If I talk about religious book then I can't forget Mr. G. D. Vashisht in whom people have blind faith and have become associated with various '' PRAYOGAS'' . I'm not satirizing his profession or him because astrology is a kind of science. There must be the truth. But if a person has turned troublesome or grief stricken in his life, he first blames his fate and then he gets absorbed in reading religious books rather than concentrating on performing '' DEEDS''. People devote themselves to religious matters. Instead of being dutiful they prefer to pray to god first!
Here, the duty of writer is to be aware of the area of interest for what readers have linkings.
As a student of literature I understand the value of it. The definition of literature can never be given. It is like, '' multiple perspectives, various notions, different interpretations on single matter.'' Literature is like '' source of inspiration'' and a '' true soul- mate''. It gives a space of one's own. It teaches not to be judgmental and provides us with a kind of detachment from a shallow adherence to continue being '' ONESELF''. It teaches me, ''life is meant to be explored and to be learnt; not to be taught. Relying on eyes is nothing but just an illusion'' . It teaches '' never differentiate anything''. It enhances an individual's way of thinking and leads him to a real or genuine perspective. Books are read for many reasons. There may be a genuine reason. There may be '' JUST KIND OF TIME PASS''. They are read to find solution, to bring the change, to understand others, to get informations just because that book is in syllabus. '' LEISURE'' word is not appropriate for literature. However, it must be considered as benefit of peacefulness. Yes, indeed when we get absorbed in reading the book, it gives a kind of peacefulness. It must be a reason why people have made up their mind to be adhesive in considering literature as an option to read in free time. People are not aware of the truth or fact that knowingly or unknowingly they grasp something, they perceive or discern something from book. At some extent they put those things into practice. Our reading enables us to enhance the way of our living and leads us towards self- enhancement. A concrete example that I can give is our too much liking for the book which we have chosen to read. One can't get rid of that liking unless he completes reading it. No matter we have too many things to be done but we are bent on completing reading that book. It shows that literature also encourages people to read it in spite of being busy and dutiful. Reading makes us endowed with a kind of genuinity .
I haven't read any of those books.
Reading books, listening to music, and watching films are different activities. Reading becomes more important but it doesn't mean that music doesn't have anything to convey but music is to be felt! It leads to an insight which can be felt only and that will be beyond this universe. It directly touches to the soul. It can only be used to reform or to transform person from evils and cruelty. On the other hand, literature can be taught. Literature can be exemplified. It helps in development of society. Films are made to reform society or to bring changes. They give aesthetic delight as well as moral messages! I agree with Keegan Pinto. As I have been associated with music since childhood , I can understand and also feel that. There is a strong link between literature and music. Literature takes the help of books to convey welfare of all and music takes the help of various RAGAS to convey factual picture of human condition , universality and human desires. There is the difference in the way the both convey but whatever is conveyed has a strong similarity. I have read too many reviews of movies that have been given by people who have not studied literature but the way they give interpretations is praiseworthy. As we study novel and then we watch movie and after watching the movie we find a vast difference between the movie and the novel. Novels are always written minutely with details compared to movies because in movies we look from the director's point of view and some times we make comments and criticize his perspective. At this point it creates conflict here and insists me to disagree with the man's saying but if we look from the distance music, reading books, films at some extent can be included together because purpose of three of them is same to CONVEY something. Literature of music is very wild and complex to understand. There are too many RAGAS which have a proper time, rules, themes, style of singing, SAPTAKAS, AAROHAS and AVROHAS. These all things are very important and they have been adopted after reading classical music literature. Music is a literature so literature must not be confined or restricted to only reading.
Personally, I like to read book which has a kind of message and realism. Indeed, it is the truth that what we read can be found found within us. It can be found in our behaviors. We judge writers and his works according to our point of views also. If I talk about myself, I don't get involved in finding questions answers from NET but I prefer to read all the necessary things which should be read. Some times, it happens that I find myself far away from writer or critic's point of view and find difficulty in accepting the things the way they have been shown. In my three years of graduation I have never tried to find questions answers and then read them but tried to read all the things minutely in absence of such a genius like you! If I try to remember myself not before one year but even before one month, all of sudden I'll find myself ugly or stupid and my mind will be full of too many remembrances and I won't believe ''myself '' of the past! As in course of time we go on enhancing ourselves , we also go on developing our genuine insight with the knowledge of books and literature. This task, if I'm not mistaken was given before eight days but my friends seem to be very busy in reading '' Wasteland, Waiting for Godot, Frost, Scarlet letter. None of them replied to this task because it is not in our SYLLABUS . This is the best example of '' WHAT YOUNG INDIA IS READING'' . The answer is simple :
'' MANY READ WHAT IS MOST ACCESSIBLE WHICH CAN EASILY BE USED! I'm damn sure if anyone of them reads my reply , I'll be getting beaten up soon.
