The title: A small dream.

Siya is being requested to get sleep but she does not want to sleep.

Siya: Who is poor, mumma? Today, in class teacher was narrating a story. When I questioned her about the boy sitting under the tree, she scolded me and told me to concentrate on study. I wanted to talk to her about the boy because when I was about to enter the school , that boy was requesting me to give him a coin which was given to me by dadaji. I gave him my coin. That boy was so hungry. He cried and said "thank you''. Within a minute, he bought a piece of food and offered me a half piece of it but I refused. Mumma, where does he live? What does he do? Where are his parents? Why don't they give their son a coin as I am given?

Mumma: Beta, that boy was so poor. It's too late. Try to get sleep please? You will have to wake up early tomorrow. I too. She kisses her forehead and tries to fondle her but she doesn't give any answer. Siya is trying to sleep but that boy seems to have occupied her mind. She has finally slept now!

Now the story begins.

Yes, his name is Manu- a cute boy, joyful, charming with light brown hair and black eyes. He is kindness personified. He always seems to explore the world surrounded by him! Recently, he has been appointed as an assistant of a grave digger. He was very happy for this. He is sent to the town- Darbaargadh. It is situated on a river bank- a small town with coconut trees. He lives close to out skirts.

One day, a man with a stick wakes him up. All of sudden the boy's sleep is disturbed and he looks at a giant man; holding a long stick with anger standing before him. It was his second day in the town. He is fourteen years old. A man with a long stick is a grave digger. He wants Manu's assistance in his work.

Grave digger: Still you sleeping? Rascal! How many times have you been told to wake up in early morning?

Manu: Sorry, sir.

Digger:Come on I have to deal with you strictly. Next time be careful. I want you here at my out skirt at sharp six o'clock.

Mannu: Ok, sir.

Now they are digging a grave, carrying too many branches, pieces of leaves. Manu looks so frightened to have worked in graveyard ; for skeletons. He doesn't seem to take interest in that work. He keeps looking at the school nearby a lake.He is tired and has suffered a lot. His life is a struggle and he has been starving for many days; wants some food to eat. He is so thin. Today, he has worked without taking rest.

He is fond of collecting flowers. He has made a flower bed plants too .He has always believed that those flower always convey something and give message of their presence. Despite their situation in a small place they have survived. They have progressed and come out from their limited space!

Grave digger: Hey, illegitimate moron, are you listening to me?

Manu has been suffering from high fever and starvation for many days. Suddenly, he rushes to digger. He was eating something. Manu snatches those pieces of bread from the man but can't eat them because he falls down on the road, requesting that cruel man to feed him with those pieces but man fails to understand him.

People gathered. They are shocked and wondering what happened to this boy. None of them tried to help Manu or nor did they bother to express their grief . Last moments are going on. Now he is trying to remember his dream about his life which he had seen . But he regrets that he couldn't live that life! Now he starts to talk to himself, his soul!

I always saw a dream of my own home." look'', he is breathing and it makes him bother a lot. "Look, here I went into my kitchen . There must be a cat there. Let me go." He cries out. There is no house of mine. He has always seen a dream of reading books. He imagines that there are books on the table and he will read them soon but cries again and breathing frequently. " How can I read them? I can't! I'm an illiterate boy.

Again he imagines that that is his school nearby a lake. He is going there. The school peon is standing there at the gate and seems to be welcoming him. A lady is coming towards him and there is a purse in her hand. She is giving him a coin! He wonders, why the children are raised and brought up by a woman? "He didn't get any woman! Manu knows nothing of how precious the relation of the mother and the son! He has lost his strength completely and tears are making their way to come out from his eyes, a harsh sound of breathing is being heard! He thinks of an old man whom he had seen a few days ago talking with his grandson and Manu imagines that the old man is talking to himself and he is his grandson and he is telling, ''school time? very good! Do study ok? '' His eyes are denying to work and Manu cries out. He has always seen others' grandfather but never has he had his own! He dreams of a teacher who is coming from the class to scold him but the fact can't conceal itself . There is no teacher of Manu who has right to scold him for being late! He has been deprived of all this. He remembers his whole life and considers his life with a parrot in the cage and he has been kept near the window as parrot is kept in the cage whenever he used to be allowed to fly or do, he used to do! The cage is the symbol of his life! He has always believed himself ''a dog'' among sheeps because among all other poor children he was different. He had tried to explore the world and seen a dream of a good fate and hard work by what he wanted to come out from his condition . It had always been the only reason why he was sent to Darbaargadh as assistant.

He is breathing speedily. He is living his last minutes between life and death. He looks at the meadow nearby graveyard. There used to be cattle and once when he was starving he had drunken a little milk. He remembers that he never slept under the fan and always craved for natural wind but now, when he is counting his last minutes he symbolizes himself as fan because fan stops working when we switch off and slowly its working comes to an end. His life is coming to an end like fan! Nobody will be there to keep his photo on the wall!

Now, Manu is about to die. Last seconds are going on. Birds start flying over the trees. They seem to be going to god to give message of Manu's arrival. They start flying above the clouds. It is believed that when the person is at his last moment, near death; God visits him. Manu is now feeling that the god is the one who knows everything of him. He is an only evidence of his deeds. What he was, how he has lived his life. He is feeling that god is giving him his reword. He is drawing the second line below the first line from where he had started his journey and the second line is his departure or the first line was his arrival. A flower bad broken down which was made by Manu. He had always watered those plants.Starvation leads him to his death. Manu looks to his right. A girl is standing there, telling him ,"I have brought a coin for you; stand up, go and get something to eat and Manu dies.

Alarm is ringing and Siya wakes up at seven o'clock ; rushes to the school and then goes to the tree to find that boy whom she had given a coin! The boy was sleeping . Siya wakes him up and says, ''my mumma always does complain about her burden of domestic work. will you help her? she will give you a coin.'' The story ends!
